Case Study: Looker Core Platform Establishment

intelia was engaged by a Financial Services Organisation to design, architect, and implement scalable infrastructure on Google Cloud to support the establishment of a new BI platform – Looker Core – enabling seamless enterprise reporting and dashboarding to meet both current and future business needs.

The challenge

The customer needed to integrate their BigQuery data warehouse with a powerful Business Intelligence (BI) tool that could handle large volumes of data securely and efficiently. The solution required robust authentication and authorisation mechanisms to ensure secure access while enabling seamless data integration. Additionally, it needed to support internal developers with data modeling and on-demand report generation, as well as facilitate secure dashboard sharing with external regulatory agencies such as APRA.

The solution

intelia designed and implemented a secure, scalable BI solution using Google-managed Looker Core. The platform was hosted behind a Regional Internal Application Load Balancer, leveraging Hybrid Network Endpoint Groups (NEGs) and SSL certificates within a VPC Service Controls (VPC SC) environment. To ensure seamless and secure access, the solution incorporated appropriate public and private DNS zones for domain resolution. This implementation enabled robust data modeling and report publishing while adhering to the client’s stringent security standards.

The results

With intelia’s solution in place, the client now benefits from a secure, scalable, and efficient BI platform, empowering internal teams with advanced data modeling and real-time reporting capabilities.

By implementing strong authentication and authorisation mechanisms, the solution ensures secure handling of sensitive financial data while complying with regulatory requirements. The ability to generate and share dashboards with external agencies, such as APRA, has enhanced transparency and reporting efficiency.
